Sequart (n.) -- seh-kwart -- the artistic medium of sequential static imagery, whatever its composition, typically combined with text. The term is employed to distinguish the medium itself from particular genres and formats, such as comic books or graphic novels. "Sequart's diversity may be seen from Peanuts to Spider-Man, from product manuals to the Stations of the Cross."

Wizard World Philly: Joshua Middleton
by Robert A. Emmons, Jr.26 July 2006 at 1:30 EST
(updated 27 July 2006 at 13:40 EST)

This is part 3 in a series of filmed interviews at Wizard World 2006: Philadelphia.

The Sequart.com crew, Mike Phillips, Kevin Colden, and Robert A. Emmons Jr., conducted on-location interviews with top talents in the field to find out what these writers and artists have on the horizon. More importantly, the Sequart.com crew tried to dig deeper, to find out how these creators work, got into the business, why they prefer one project over another, and other answers that reveal how and why these talents do what it is they do so well!

In part 3, comic book creator Joshua Middleton talks about his covers for Vertigo's American Virgin, his upcoming creator-owned work, and how his artwork has developed. Middleton discusses learning to collaborate as an artist, including his move to coloring his own work, plus his shift from greyscale artwork to a line influenced by animation. Middleton's a major talent, and this interview casts a light on his artistic process.

Plus geeks and pissed-off stormtroopers! What could go wrong?

This video runs 3:49 and is available in various formats with various file sizes:

Filmed and Edited by Emmons
Assisted by Colden
Music by Halfling

Sequart.com would like to thank our volunteers (Amy Dean, Todd Studeny, Jeff Tepper, and Joe Gattus), the creators interviewed, and Wizard. We love the convention, and the staff was both kind and accommodating. Thanks!

Also, a special thanks needs to go to Kevin Colden, who helped us during the entire shoot.
